This 28-year-old woman from the North Shore came to my office to discuss cosmetic surgery. She wanted very full breasts to complement her overall figure.

During our breast augmentation consultation, we discussed the idea of breast fill volume – the volume that each patient’s breast requires to give a full natural slope of the upper breast. This patient wanted breast implants slightly larger than her fill volume, which I estimated to be 400cc, and thus choose 450cc implants. At surgery, Moderate Plus Profile silicone gel filled implants were placed beneath the muscle using an incision at the bottom of the breast (inframammary).

This patient’s rapid recovery is typical for my patients who generally return to normal daily activities the day after surgery. Because I create the implant pocket with surgical precision rather than pulling and tearing the muscle, I do not use drains or tight wraps after surgery. My patients are allowed to shower the day after surgery and are encouraged to go out of the house the day after surgery. Many go out to dinner, to kids soccer games, or even host a baby shower the day after their breast augmentation surgery!
