What is the Halo laser?

The Halo laser is one of the most exciting laser skin rejuvenation procedures in the Boston area.

The Halo laser is a new type of fractional laser that combines ablative and nonablative wavelengths of energy to target both the dermis and the epidermis. The Halo laser is the first hybrid fractional laser in the world, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most popular anti-aging treatments available because it provides effective skin resurfacing with little downtime.

How does the Halo laser work?

Just like any other laser skin rejuvenation treatment, the Halo laser uses thermal energy to target the skin. However, Halo is different because it combines 2 different types of lasers. The Halo laser offers you the best of both worlds by significantly improving your skin’s appearance while reducing downtime and recovery.

Ablative lasers

vaporize the outer layers of skin and create deep, tiny channels in the dermis, or lower layers of skin. This causes your skin to repair itself by producing more collagen – an important component of youthful skin. Ablative lasers require some healing and downtime and are usually recommended for people who have more moderate to advanced signs of aging.

Nonablative lasers

are more gentle than ablative lasers because they don’t vaporize, but rather heat the skin. The results are subtle improvements in your skin’s texture and tone with less downtime and discomfort than ablative lasers.

  • Are bothered by sun spots, age spots, or other skin discoloration

Benefits of the Halo laser

The Halo laser is a game-changing treatment that can give you bright, glowing, youthful-looking skin in as little as 1 treatment. Our Boston Halo Laser clients love it because it makes their skin soft and smooth; it erases lines and wrinkles; and it evens out their complexion.

Additionally, because Halo works on both the dermis and the epidermis, your skin will benefit below the surface, too. Halo helps stimulate the creation of collagen and elastin, which continue to grow and replenish up to 6 months after your treatment. This means your skin will not only look younger, it will act younger too. Because Halo uses a hybrid of dual laser technology, you’ll also enjoy:

  • More comfortable treatments
  • Less pain and discomfort
  • Fewer side effects
  • Optimal cosmetic results
  • Quick improvements with fewer sessions

Recovery and results

Cool compresses will be applied to your skin after treatment to reduce heat and improve your comfort. Some redness, soreness, and swelling is to be expected, but these side effects should improve within a few days.

You should avoid sun exposure for 1-2 days after Halo because your skin will be sensitive to sunlight. Most people can comfortably wear makeup again within just 24 hours of their procedure. You will receive specific aftercare instructions to help you care for your skin so that you heal as quickly as possible.

Although the Halo laser treatment is a low-downtime procedure, you may want to take a couple of days off after treatment. Many of our clients have their Halo treatment on Friday so they can have 2 days to recover before returning to work on Monday. You will notice some flaking and peeling the first week after your procedure. This is normal and should subside in a few days. Once resolved, your skin will look youthful, glowing, and vibrant. You will continue to see improvements in your skin for several months as new collagen cells form and give your skin a plump, youthful look.

Your Halo Laser treatment

At Clareo Centers for Aesthetic Surgery in Boston Halo laser treatment is customized to your skin’s needs, your cosmetic goals, and your availability for downtime. All Halo procedures are performed by one of our highly-trained and skilled aesthetic nurse practitioners, working under the supervision of Dr. Tantillo.

Prior to treatment, your skin will be cleansed to remove any dirt, oil, or makeup. Next, a topical numbing cream is applied to your skin to ensure that your procedure is as comfortable as possible. Your Halo provider will then adjust the laser’s settings to deliver the correct laser light for best results. As the Halo wand is passed over the treatment area, you may notice a feeling of warmth on your skin. Most of our clients find this sensation very tolerable. After about 45 minutes, your treatment is complete.
