Smooth lines and creases on your face

through no-downtime injections

Visit an aesthetic center that places the utmost importance on quality, safety, and service. At Clareo Plastic Surgery in Boston Botox is used to soften or eliminate expression lines around the eyes, forehead, and brow area to refresh the skin and put a temporary stop to skin aging.

At Clareo Plastic Surgery, we use genuine Botox direct from the manufacturer, Allergan, to provide our patients with exceptional results while maximizing safety and efficacy.

What is Botox?

Botox is an injection that temporarily weakens the muscle into which it is injected. The active ingredient botulinum Type A, blocks certain chemical signals sent by nerves that are responsible for causing facial muscles to contract and relax.

When injected into muscles of the face in appropriate doses, muscles relax, and the lines of animation and age soften or go away. Botox works quickly, but it is not an instant treatment like dermal fillers. Rather, it takes a few days for the product to relax the chemical nerve signals in the facial muscles. Our Boston Botox patients generally notice the wrinkles and expression lines in the treated area become smoother and less obvious in about 2-4 days after treatment. Full results take 10-14 days.

Areas Treated With Botox

  • Crow’s feet
  • Brow lines
  • Frown lines
  • Gummy smile
  • Nose wrinkles
  • Furrowed brow
  • Horizontal banding on the neck
  • Overly-prominent jawline or trapezius

Who Is a Candidate for Botox?

Anyone bothered by forehead lines, a crease or creases between the eyebrows, or crow's feet by the eyes may be a candidate for treatment with Botox. Occasionally used in other areas of the face, Botox is commonly used to treat the area around the eyes. Neuromodulators are suitable for men and women who are in good general health. Women must not be pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of the procedure.

People with allergies to the main ingredient in Botox, while rare, should not receive treatment. The skin must not have active lesions, wounds, tumors, or sores in the immediate area that requires an injection. In addition, certain neurological diseases may disqualify some patients from receiving Botox injections. This list is not all-inclusive. During your consultation for Botox Boston injection specialists at Clareo Plastic Surgery will help you to determine if you are eligible for the procedure. Our Boston Botox injection specialist will conduct a skin examination along with a questionnaire about your relevant medical history to determine if Botox is in your best interest medically.

Booking the Appointment

Patients who are good candidates for the Botox procedure can choose to be treated the same day as the consultation.

It is best to schedule injections at least two weeks before special events to allow the full effects of treatment to take place. Patients who are receiving Botox injections for the first time may benefit from booking the appointment 3-4 weeks ahead of important events so that they may receive a touch-up to fine-tune the results if needed.

How much does Botox cost?

Botox is a very cost-effective option compared to surgical approaches to revitalizing your complexion. The cost of your treatment will depend on the areas treated and the amount of product used. At your consultation, we can provide an assessment of your individual needs and a cost estimate for your treatment.

Botox Procedure

Injections are given as an office procedure. Treatment is quick and easy, usually taking 30 minutes or less. Our highly experienced nurse injector precisely administers the injections in order to smooth out the targeted lines and creases in a way that looks natural and mobile. Botox is a minimally invasive procedure that causes little, if any, pain. Most people who have received Botox injections report that it feels like a quick pinch, with mild discomfort resolving in minutes. If desired, a topical anesthetic can be applied ahead of time to minimize any potential discomfort. There is no downtime required after your appointment, and you will be ready to return to most of your regular activities right away. To prevent the formula from spreading, do not lie down or massage the treatment area for the first few hours following your visit. You should avoid exercise or excess heat for 24 hours. Minor swelling or bruising in the treatment area are normal side effects that will fade in a few days.

Botox Recovery and Results

The full results of Botox are visible approximately 10-14 days after the procedure. At this point, the muscle has relaxed, and the skin has smoothed considerably.

The effects of Botox gradually wear off over four to six months. As the Botox results wear off during this time, patients will notice a resumption of normal facial muscle movement in the treated area. Fine lines and wrinkles will slowly begin to reemerge until the skin returns to its pre-treated appearance. For the best results, we recommend that our clients return before the product wears off fully. This ensures that you can maintain a wrinkle-free appearance that is long-lasting. There is no Botox downtime, and patients can return immediately to their daily routine or work. Patients should avoid strenuous activity for six hours after receiving Botox. While relatively uncommon, some patients report a mild headache on the day of their Botox treatment. Before taking any pain medication, such as NSAIDs, please consult with the injector first. Certain types of medications and supplements may increase bleeding risk.

How long do the effects of Botox last?

The longevity of injections varies somewhat among individuals and according to the areas treated. Typically, the effects of Botox injections last between three and four months, and some people see results for as long as six months. Factors influencing the duration include your individual metabolism, the dosage administered, and the specific muscle groups targeted. Over time, as the effects gradually diminish, muscle activity returns, and wrinkles may reappear. Many individuals choose to schedule follow-up injections to maintain their desired results continually. Regular treatments can slow the formation of new wrinkles and may even help train the muscles in the area to contract less.

Botox FAQs

The amount of injectable neuromodulator you need depends on your treatment goals and the specific areas you want to address. Generally, Botox is measured in units, and the number of units required varies. Commonly, forehead lines may need 10 to 30 units, crow's feet around the eyes 5 to 15 units per side, and frown lines between the eyebrows approximately 20 to 25 units. The exact dosage is determined by your healthcare provider during a consultation, considering factors like muscle strength, depth of wrinkles, and desired results. It's crucial to consult with a qualified professional who can assess your individual needs and create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Botox is not recommended for anyone who is currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Research has not established whether this product is safe for the baby during these times.
