What is fat transfer?
Fat transfer is a procedure that involves removes fat from one area of the body by liposuction, prepares the fat for transfer in the operating room, and injects the fat into another area of the body, in this case the face. Common areas of the face in which to inject fat are the upper cheeks, the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth, the corners of the mouth, and the lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin.
Who is a candidate for fat transfer?
Anyone who is bothered by the loss of facial volume that typically occurs with aging and is in overall good health may be a candidate for fat transfer. Fat transfer accompanies most facelifts for optimal results.
Benefits of fat transfer
- Restores youthfulness to the face
- Enjoy long-lasting results
- Can be more cost effective than filler when large volumes are required to achieve the results you want
Recovery and results
When performed by itself, the recovery from fat transfer is seven to ten days. There is swelling after the procedure, which is minimized by applying cool compresses to the face for the first 48 hours after the procedure. When done as part of a facelift, recovery time is the same as for a facelift.
