Am I a candidate for liposuction?

If you are in good health, within 25% of your ideal body weight, and have one or more areas of fat that are bothersome to you, yes.

What can I expect from liposuction?

Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure; it is a body contouring procedure. You will notice little change on the scale; you will see the effects of liposuction in the mirror and feel them when wearing clothes.

When will I see results of my liposuction?

Approximately six weeks you will see the difference after liposuction. It takes six months for all the swelling to disappear, the skin tightening to complete, and to see the result.

How is the liposuction performed?

The SAFELipo® technique is used. Tumescent solution is placed into the area to be treated. This minimizes the bruising of the procedure. Then the fat is separated using a liposuction cannula. Next the fat is aspirated with liposuction. Finally, the fat is equalized using a liposuction cannula. This technique minimizes the risk of contour irregularities, skin damage, and bruising.

How much does liposuction cost?

The cost of liposuction is quite varied and based on the amount of liposuction performed. The cost can range from $2,000 to $8,000.

Tummy Tuck

Will a tummy tuck help me lose weight?

A tummy tuck, like liposuction, is a body contouring procedure rather than a weight loss surgery. While excess tissue is removed in the operation, this weighs very little and a tummy tuck is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise.

Can I get pregnant after a tummy tuck?

An abdominoplasty does not effect a woman’s ability to become pregnant. Because pregnancy will stretch the soft tissues on the abdominal wall, we recommend postponing a tummy tuck until you have completed your pregnancies.

Does a tummy tuck remove stretch marks?

A tummy tuck includes removal of the skin from the lower abdomen. Any stretch marks in the skin to be removed are removed; stretch marks above or to the side of this area are not removed.

What is the recovery time?

Most patients are back to routine activities, including work, three weeks after surgery. Because the muscles are repaired, patients should avoid straining their abdominal muscles for six weeks after surgery.

What will my scars look like?

Scars are an unfortunate trade-off for the many benefits of a tummy tuck. The scar in the lower abdomen will be such that it will be covered by most any clothing. The length of that scar depends on how much excess skin needs to be removed. Patients who have a full tummy tuck also have a scar around the belly button; a mini tummy tuck does not require an incision around the belly button. Precise surgical technique is used to minimize the appearance of the scar and we will give you recommendations for scar management after the surgery. Over time the scars are almost always inconspicuous and acceptable to patients.

Will a tummy tuck change the tattoo on my abdomen?

Depending on the location of the tattoo and how much excess skin you have, the tattoo may be removed completely or altered. We will be able to plan for this ahead of time and sometimes alter the surgery a bit to accommodate a tattoo.

How will I know if I need a tummy tuck or just liposuction?

An important consideration when choosing to have a tummy tuck or only liposuction is the skin of the abdomen; how much excess is present and how elastic it is. Liposuction does not remove skin, so if there is too much skin and/or the skin does not have enough elasticity to “bounce back” then liposuction can leave patients with hanging skin. During the consultation we will review the options that would suit you, and the pros and cons of each.

Can I have liposuction at the same time as a tummy tuck?

Absolutely. In fact, almost all patients have some type of liposuction with their tummy tuck.

Can I combine a tummy tuck with other procedures?

Yes, other procedures besides liposuction can be combined with a tummy tuck. These include aesthetic breast surgery, circumferential torso surgery, thigh lift or liposuction, or an arm lift or liposuction. We will only perform surgery that is safe; if you are interested in more procedures than can be safely done as one procedure, we will devise a plan for staged surgery.

What will the results look like?

While individual results are unique, your abdomen will be flat without loose skin, your waistline will be improved, and your sit-up muscles will be tightened.

Do I need drains after a tummy tuck?

Most tummy tuck procedures do not require drains.

How much does a tummy tuck cost?

The cost for a tummy tuck will depend on the extent of the procedure including any associated liposuction. The range is generally between $8000 and $16,000.

Mommy Makeover

What is a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover refers to breast and/or body contouring surgery to restore the changes seen after pregnancy. Commonly a mommy makeover includes a breast lift and/or breast implants, a tummy tuck, and often liposuction. However, each mommy makeover is tailored to the wishes and needs of the patient.

What is the recovery after a mommy makeover?

The recovery varies from patient to patient and is dependent on which procedures are performed. Generally, a tummy tuck is performed and that dictates the recovery time. Most patients are back to routine activities three weeks after their mommy makeover while avoiding straining the abdominal muscles for six weeks after surgery.

How much does a mommy makeover cost?

This varies from patient to patient based on the procedures performed and the extent of the procedures performed. The range is wide, from $8,000 to $20,000.

Buttocks Lift

What is a buttocks lift?

A buttocks lift refers to a fat transfer buttock augmentation. Liposuction is an important part of a buttocks lift, not only to get the fat for the buttock enhancement, but also to contour the torso adjacent to the buttock.

What is the recovery like after a buttocks lift?

The most important thing in the recovery period is to protect the fat that is transferred to the buttock area. This means minimizing the pressure on these areas for three weeks. Patients should sleep on their stomachs, sit with good posture with padding under their thighs and behind the back, and stand as much as possible during the day.

When will I see my results?

Initially the buttock area is swollen so the buttock area will be much larger that the result. The swelling goes away over three to six weeks and about half of the fat that is transferred disappears also. By six weeks when the swelling is largely gone and the fat is alive in its new location, you will see the result.

What happens if I gain or lose weight after my buttocks lift?

Once transferred, the fat will respond to weight changes the same way all fat cells so. Significant weight changes can affect the result.

Can someone else donate the fat for my buttocks lift?

Unfortunately, one person cannot donate fat to another person.

Can I have the procedure more than once?

Yes, you can have fat transfer more than once. You should wait at least six months between procedures.

How much does a buttocks lift cost?

The cost varies depending on the amount of liposuction performed. The range is usually between $7,500 and $10,000.

Arm Lift

What is an arm lift?

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the upper arms. Liposuction of the arms is often performed with an arm lift to optimize the results.

Where are the scars of an arm lift?

Sometimes patients are a candidate for a “mini arm lift” in which case the scars are in the axilla. However, the majority of arm lifts are performed with an incision along the inside of the arm starting at the axilla and ending above the elbow. The scar would be concealed when your arms are down by your side. The length of the scar needed depends on the amount of excess skin to be removed.

How do I know if I am a candidate for an arm lift?

If you have extra skin in the upper arms that is bothering you such that you are willing to trade that skin for a scar, then you may be a candidate for an arm lift. If you have some extra fat in the upper arms and good skin elasticity, you may be a candidate for arm liposuction. During your consultation we will review the options suitable to you.

How much does an arm lift cost?

The cost varies depending on how much extra skin is present and whether or not liposuction is combined with the arm lift. However, arm lift surgery is generally between $7,500 and $10,000.

Post Weight Loss Surgery

What is post weight loss surgery?

Post weight loss contouring surgery is any surgery that removes excess skin present after successful weight loss. Areas treated include the face, neck, breast/chest, torso, and thighs. While surgery cannot restore the tissue tone or elasticity that was lost with weight fluctuation, the excess skin is removed and the contour of the treated area improved.

Who is a candidate for post weight loss surgery?

Anyone who has lost significant weight, is bothered by loose skin, is at a stable healthy weight, and is in overall good health may be a candidate for post weight loss surgery.

Can everything be done during one operation?

Each patient’s situation is different and requires its own approach. Some patients can have everything done during a single operation while others will require a staged approach.

How much does post weight loss surgery cost?

Because the procedures that are right for each patient vary widely, the costs also vary widely. Some patients want only a neck lift or tummy tuck, while other patients choose to have several procedures at once and others prefer to have separate operations.
