Soften lines and creases

Of the lower face, lips, and around the mouth, enhance cheekbones or lips — in an aesthetic surgery center that places the utmost importance on quality, safety, and service.

What are dermal fillers?

A dermal filler is an injectable that serves two aesthetic purposes: wrinkle reduction and volume augmentation. Nasolabial folds also called smile lines, and marionette lines, also known as puppet lines, can be effectively treated with filler. Fine lines around the lips are often treated with a combination of filler and Botox®.

The crease that can develop between the lower eyelid and cheek can be treated with filler to soften the transition from the lower eyelid to the cheek. The cheeks, temples, and jaw are areas of the face treated with filler to build the skeletal foundation of the face. Treating these foundational areas, particularly the cheeks, gives a lifting effect to the face, much like blowing up a balloon. Therefore these foundational areas are often treated before treating the nasolabial folds or marionette lines because the lifting effect can soften the lines around the mouth.

Chin augmentation is a new and exciting application of filler. The lips are often treated with filler to add lip volume. Patients of all ages are treated with lip fillers. Thinning lips is an often overlooked area of normal aging; at Clareo Aesthetics we are seeing more and more women in their forties and fifties for lip augmentation in addition to the younger patients we have seen for years for lip augmentation. At Clareo Centers, we offer a variety of high-quality dermal fillers that have been rigorously tested for safety and efficacy.

Clareo offers the Juvéderm® family of injectable fillers used most often to soften lines or creases around the mouth, enhance the cheeks, or make the lips fuller.

Juvéderm® is among the top brands of cosmetic injectables in the world. It is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is an ingredient that is abundant in human skin. The various Juvéderm® products are manufactured with varying cross-linking characteristics for varying applications. For example, Voluma® is designed to be administered on the bone for skeletal augmentation while Jevéderm Ultra® is designed to be administered more superficially. Juvéderm Ultra Plus®, Volbella®, and Vollure® complete the Juvéderm® family of products.

We at Clareo Aesthetics also use the Galderma® family of hyaluronic acid fillers which are all within the Restylane® family of fillers. Lyft®, Refyne®, Defyne®, and Kysse® are products that also reduce wrinkles and add volume to the face. We also offer Sculptra® Aesthetic, a long-lasting dermal filler in Boston that not only enhances facial volume but also helps your skin produce more youthful collagen cells.

Sculptra® is composed of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid which stimulates natural collagen so that your skin looks and behaves like young skin. Sculptra® is an excellent dermal filler option for anyone who wants to boost their own collagen production while achieving very natural-looking results. Sculptra® is used to lessen the appearance of facial creases, such as smile lines around the mouth, and is also very effective for increasing facial volume for more youthful contours. A series of three Sculptra® treatments performed over the course of 3 to 4 months is recommended for the best results. The effects of Sculptra® can last 2 years or more. Your results will appear gradually and improve with each treatment. This results in subtle, natural-looking enhancements.

Am I a Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

Anyone in good health who is bothered by lines or creases around the mouth or would like fuller cheeks or lips may be a candidate for injectable fillers. Certain medical conditions and active skin lesions can be reasons to not or to postpone treatment. Patients with a history of easy bleeding should discuss this with their doctor prior to receiving injections. Also inform Clareo staff about any medications and over the counter products you take, including blood thinners, aspirin, or ibuprofen. If you are unsure whether you are a suitable candidate for dermal fillers, we welcome you to meet with our injection specialist for a skin evaluation at the consultation.

Dermal Fillers Procedure

At Clareo Centers, we strive to make dermal filler injections a comfortable and pleasant experience.

After a consultation to discuss the cosmetic concerns you are experiencing with our trained injector, the procedure takes place immediately for clients that wish to proceed with dermal fillers the same day. The majority of patients report the degree of discomfort is quite minimal. Most fillers have lidocaine, a local anesthetic, mixed into them to minimize any discomfort from the injections. You will see the results immediately.

Recovery After Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers have instant results, as the treated area will gain volume immediately upon injection. There is no downtime with dermal fillers. However, some swelling after the injection is to be expected and you should apply a cold compress frequently to the area for the first 24 hours after the procedure. Do not apply excessive pressure when using cold compresses.

Mild bruising may occur in some, but not all, patients after receiving cosmetic injectables. Bruises are more common in areas around the mouth which are more sensitive than other areas of the face, such as the cheeks. Pre-treating with Arnica tablets and/or by one serving a day of pineapple for three days prior to treatment can minimize any bruising that may be associated with the procedure. Ice application may also speed the rate of bruise recovery. Makeup can also be used to conceal small bruises, which will resolve in approximately 14 days or less. Some patients do not experience bruising at all. Dermal fillers are considered lunch-time treatment. Patients can return to work and social activities immediately after the procedure. The skin may appear slightly red and swollen initially in the treatment area.

Dermal Filler Results

Your results will last 12 to 24 months depending on the area treated and the filler used for cheek enhancement, nasolabial folds, and facial wrinkles. Lip fillers tend to produce a less long-lasting effect. This may vary based on the product used. Lip filler results tend to last 6 to 12 months on average.

With hyaluronic acid fillers, for example, the product wears away gradually as the body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the product. Hyaluronic acid is a material that is naturally found throughout the body and skin, therefore it poses little to no risk when it is injected properly by our trained aesthetic injector. The body safely absorbs and then expels the hyaluronic acid gel over a period of several months. As this happens, the volumized area will gradually return to its pre-treatment condition. Maintain your results by coming to Clareo Centers for a touch-up when you notice the filler wears away.

Dermal Fillers FAQ

Injectable fillers are volume-enhancing agents injected into the soft tissues of the face. They are injected with a syringe during an office procedure.

Injectable fillers treat areas of volume loss such as in the upper cheeks or lips, or tissue hollowing such as at the smile lines called “nasolabial folds,” vertical lines down from the side of the mouth, called “marionette lines,” or fine lines, such as those in the upper lip.

The longevity of the injectable depends on the product, but anywhere from six to twenty-four months.

When administered by a trained professional, injectable fillers are very safe.
