A butt lift often referred to as a “Brazilian Butt Lift,” is a procedure that lifts the buttocks by adding fat to the area to accentuate it.
Patients are treated with liposuction; the fat removed by liposuction from your own body is prepared in the operating room and then transferred to your buttocks. The fat added to your buttock will make it fuller, rounder, and lifted.
Who is a candidate for a butt lift?
Anyone who is interested in a fuller, rounder, and lifted buttock, and is in good health may be a candidate for a buttock lift. Patients must have enough fat amenable to liposuction; people cannot donate fat to someone else’s buttocks lift.
A buttock lift is generally a day surgical procedure; if it is combined with other procedures, patients will occasionally stay overnight. The most important part of recovery is minimizing the pressure on the transferred fat for three weeks. Patients should sleep on their stomach during this time and avoid sitting directly on the areas that have had fat transferred.
Patients are up and walking the evening of surgery and return to routine activities within seven to ten days after the surgery. The swelling will increase for approximately three days after surgery and not all the transferred fat will ultimately survive. You will see the final volume of the buttock approximately four to six weeks after the surgery. You will see near-final results in the areas treated with liposuction approximately six weeks after surgery, although these areas will continue subtle improvement for up to six months after surgery.
A butt lift refers to a fat transfer buttock augmentation. Liposuction is an important part of a buttocks lift, not only to get the fat for the buttock enhancement but also to contour the torso adjacent to the buttock.
The most important thing in the recovery period is to protect the fat that is transferred to the buttock area. This means minimizing the pressure on these areas for three weeks. Patients should sleep on their stomachs, sit with good posture with padding under their thighs and behind the back, and stand as much as possible during the day.
Initially, the buttock area is swollen so the buttock area will be much larger than the result. The swelling goes away over three to six weeks and about half of the fat that is transferred disappears also. By six weeks when the swelling is largely gone and the fat is alive in its new location, you will see the result.
Once transferred, the fat will respond to weight changes the same way all fat cells do. Significant weight changes can affect the result.
Unfortunately, one person cannot donate fat to another person.
Yes, you can have fat transfer more than once. You should wait at least six months between procedures.
The cost varies depending on the amount of liposuction performed. The range is usually between $7,500 and $10,000.
